Beetleglitz: Louboutin for Mary Katrantzou

There was this book called Living Jewels that came out a few years ago with gorgeous full-page photos of the most magnificently coloured and shaped beetles I had ever seen. There is something about the delicacy with which a beetle is constructed, it is armour-like yet dainty, fragile but coloured in the most impossibly brazen metallics. That animated jewel quality has always appealed to me greatly. How could it not? Anyway, I saw these delicately constructed stilettos with their virulently green studs on see-through PVC and crazy red and metallic blue contrast and thought of the beetles. They are a beautiful punch in the face, but without the voluminous excess that has characterized Louboutin heels of late. This is why I only like his collaborations now. That's where all the good stuff's at.

TwitpicTheiving: The Overdressed

This is what I do when I have so much work I'm gona cry: steal people's Twitpics! Most of the time, I actually am more interested in people's Twitter pics than their edited ones. It is this ability to passively enmesh myself in the minutiae of other people's lives that I find so interesting about Twitter (though I must admit, I do not tweet too much myself!). You get this much less edited sense of their small loves and small comforts and fascinations that I prize over the "big picture". Most peoples' grand visions of themselves fit into usually hackneyed categories, types, whatever. Boring. It is in the small things that people usually leave their mark. Soft yet constrained, luxurious but with a certain cold delicacy. Those are the Overdressed hallmarks. It is the small proper bobble on the edge of the cuff that interests her, the Easter-ish reflection of light on a perfect pair of shiny, dragee-like pumps, the fromage-frais pink on a lush pomegranate and navy floral carpet, the cold glint off the formal tops of Cire Trudon's (love their mint!) heavy glass candle covers. These are the images I associate with Dana's style and they really come out in these beautiful pictures.
