I prefer the term interest books over coffee-table books. Coffee table rings too much of the giant Helmut Newton/Testino glossies cutiegirls buy from Selfridges for insta-credibility. This series takes a look at some of the wonderful special-interest books I've managed to find along my book bingeathons. Sharing is caring.
I found this lovely volume sitting alone and tempting on the shelf at Foyles and absolutely wasn't about to resist. I love travel, and islands. I've literally been begging someone to come with me to the Sandwich Islands for, what, ever? and no one seems to give me face. Anyway, this book is a funny introduction to remote, usually uninhabited islands in remote, uninhabited parts of the world. From former Cold War spy-lands to ones names after fictional characters, the content looks like my next vacation list. Nothing I love more than poking around rusting Soviet spy apparatus on a spit of sand in the middle of the Pacific. I'm totally serious.
