I ordered this from Folio but you can find copies on ebay too. HCA's fairytales are a classic and a must on any self-respecting bookshelf.

This is my copy of Gogol's Dead Souls. Isn't that a fabulous pattern? Oh my goodness i love Gogol so much you cannot even begin to imagine. Truly, the Russian sense of humor is exactly my cup of tea!

The Chronicle of El-Cid by Heritage Press again(the 11th cent Castillian nobleman and governor of Valencia who was one of the big Moor-fighters). Look at that artwork! Simply ravishing!

This is the cover and inside of Zuleika Dobson, published by Heritage Press i believe. This is a non-Richard Burton translation of 1001 Nights. Don't they resemble elegant walking sticks? Look how beautifully the page is framed inside!

The History of the Caliph Vathek is a 19th cent Gothic novel written by William Beckford about the crazy life of an Abbasid caliph. I am terribly excited to read it! I really do enjoy Orientalist works, i find them so exciting.

Personally, i'm not the biggest fan of paperbacks. Sure, they're nice to write all over but it sucks when you pick up some old paperback and you're eager to read it only to have its acid paper all yellowed, smelling like cheapness and with the spine coming apart. A book deserves its respect and I always enjoy collecting books which have been beautifully manufactured. It really makes a difference because its like a painting, okay it looks fabulous by itself, but framing it respectfully just makes it all the more gorgeous. I love leather-bound volumes with moire silk inserts, raised spines and stamped gold letters with illustrations inside. I also love printed patterns and actually, all sorts of things. It makes my world brighter.
My favorite publishers are:
1) Easton Press (the Rolls Royce of the publishing industry)
2) The Franklin Library
3) Heritage Press
4) Last but not least, The Folio Society
I am a member of the Folio Society and i order from them, but sometimes you can find brand new, still wrapped Folio volumes on ebay for 1/5th of the price, so why not? And usually you can find the out-of-print ones there as well. On ebay i look for all sorts of out-of print books i neeed to have, magazines that write about Kuwait (I found one Time from 1991 with the cover page screaming WHAT IS KUWAIT? haha) and refuse to buy my ugly course books but find nicer, more cared for and elegant editions.

I LOVE RUSSELL BRAND

I absolutely adore the way he speaks. He is hilarious and the sheer elegance of his spontaneity is soooo impressive! Its impossible to stop watching him, even though every time i do i have a crazy desire to jump into my laptop and give his hair a good yank with a heavy-duty comb! I think i'll buy his book. PLUS, in his interview with Richard and Judy for his Booky Wook, he said that a Swami told him: "all desire is the inappropriate substitute for the ultimate desire to be at one with God." HELLO!!! I swear that's exactly my claim in that Vampire paper i wrote last year that i keep talking about. But instead of "to be at one with God" i used the phrase "to attain the Answer", which is basically the same thing because to "be at one" is the same as being in possession of, or rather, immersed in The Answer, you have all understanding. And the pursuit of "desire", the pursuit of some blinding Extreme Climactic Excitement is the fake and easy substitute for this. Anyway, love the guy.

CRAZY

Goolaw Mashallah. Basically i had an essay due on Monday mornin, which i didnt read half my stuff for because i was procrastinating everything for 3 weeks. I went to the gym and was sooo tired min il sa3a 8. I said okay lets sleep and ill gte up super early. Tried bes didnt work, gimt a7aty fa wa9alt and didnt finish my essay til 5 minutes before class the next morning!
By 1.30 pm the next day, i took a shower and by two i went to bed. Gilt 3ady its just a nap and ill wake by 5pm or something and work. I had the weirdest, longest, most frightening, most world-upside-down nightmare i've ever had in my life! i wake up willa its light. Ha! Gilt aah okay ma nimt wayid. 6ila3t min il dar o shift il janitor. Confusion. I asked my roomate "Wan what time is it?" Chan itgooli "9". 9ar feeny... wait....9 what? 9 as in TOMORROW MORNING? makseena she got confused. Chan i9eer feeny "Wan is it MORNING?" I opened the window willa 9ij! and snow was covering the ground, it was not like that when i slept! WOOOOOAH. I slept for NINETEEN hours straight!!! Thats almost YOM KAMIL! I was held captive by my crazy crazy super-scary nightmare! Seriously, my nightmare would not let me wake up! It was nauseatingly disturbing. I have never slept that long in my life! How weird?

Who's Digging Space Hair?? I AM!!!!!!!

No im not talking about "Pauly D" style gravity-resistant 'dos. Not am i speaking of Rihanna/Kanye i-need-a-stylist-every-morning type hair. I love spacey, futuristic happy relaxed hair. Hair that is just so fresh and goes with the flow, dancing on wavelengths way ahead of its time, fusing mermaid and space-tribe princess. you get the idea. Freaked when i saw Beyonce's hair. The first thing i thought was COOOOOOOOOOL AVATAR! Not really but whatever. Love love love you Beyonce!! Imagine braiding this type of hair into small braids and leaving the rest to flow in glorious cotton-candy wonder like amazing, long threads of stardust powder around your head. DAMN! Clara Francis Happy Animals

I love anything with animals on it. I think i've said this before. Instead of real animals i like them on printed on my clothes and especially on my jewelry. I have tons of accessories like my plastic tiger necklace, favorite silver eagle cuff, huge crocodile brooch etc etc that reflect my enjoyment in adorning myself with frozen creatures. Just found this wonderful new accessories brand started by Clara Francis which has all these delightfully beaded birds and foxes and stuff. They look sort of digital but sweet and elegant at the same time. You can wear them with soft drapey clothes to give them a kick. An angry stag. Just my thing. Plus the stag is Harry's Patronus so of course i love it.Happy Hummingbirds
