Head in the Clouds

Im having a Cloudmania. Never heard of it? Neither have I. I just seem to be accidentally drawn to anything and everything relating to clouds these days. I dont know why, it just.. happened. My new obsession includes but is not limited to:
The Cloud Appreciation Society:

It's this wonderful society devoted to spreading awareness about clouds. It was started by this delightful Englishman and his wife. I think it is just great! I love clouds and proir to being a regular vistor to their super website, i had no idea that they were so many types of clouds! Astounding. Clouds are such beautiful, peaceful things, floaty and yet they contain so much power. Love it love it love it!
You can join and send in pictures by signing up at: cloudappreciationsociety.org

Cloudberries:

I've wanted to try these every since i saw that BBC Food show on Norwegian cuisine. They look a bit like raspberries but are golden-coloured when ripe. It is said that they are the most delicious berries on earth with a subtlety of flavour and divine softness that is unmatched! In the olden days, families in the Scandinavian countries (where they grow) used to keep the location of nearby cloudberry bushes a secret so that no one could go and steal them. They grow in the wild and are a delicacy, very rarely found outside of northern Europe.

Topshop Cloud Wash Jeans:

I really like these cloud wash jeans. They seem to be a sweet and optimistic turn for jeans after a looong period of only-dark-super-skinny. They are slightly off which only makes me love them even more. Yalla, yalla give me time, i will fit into the small ones inshallah. :) And the light acid washes too (I always knew they would make a comeback!)

The Selby

I like this site. This photographer, The Selby, takes these wonderful pictures that make me happy. He is the like the happier, daytime Cobrasnake. (Cobrasnake annoys me but wthv.) And his interviews are fun and all written in handwriting after the photos. Plus he draws these funny watercolors of people. Cute. Check it out.

LOVE LOVE

If you know anything about fashion, you will know who and how cool Katie Grand is. And if you knew that POP is dead, you will know that her latest venture is the bi-annual LOVE magazine. And i've been waiting for it for aaages now!!! And it finally arrived in Paris! YAY! Super. I ADORE it! They had an entire thing on Beth Ditto (lead singer of The Gossip) and i fell in love with love the cover. The pink tulle, the seafoam green, the cascading white flesh and curly handwriting! OH FABULOSITY INCARNATED! I dont like fatness but i like it in the magazine cover/Lucien Freud way and this was just superb. What i DIED for, however, were the spread on the Pam Hogg catsuits- she makes them all herself. HOLY FLIPPING A GORGEOUS SAVE ME!!! I seriously, desperately, majorly want one (and the body required to fill it)! I cant find pics of the spread online, but i did find one of the catsuits on Browns. Maybe ill get the leggings! Twenty kilos drop! -snap-

We Have Band: Oh!

I Have Addiction. Super, i love it. I want to dance.

Whos going NUTS over Spartiates?

I AM!! 6ab3an. Well, 'tis the season to bear you feet and i am CRAAZY for Gladiators! Its a seasonal insanity. My favorite Gladiator sandals in the WORLD are from K. Jacques. For those of you who remember netaporter ayam zaman, they used to have the brand (very limited number of stuff but whtv) and then for some reason, they just took it off! Three years ago i ordered a pair in the spring to wear with my Anglomania by Vivienne Westwood lightly corseted milkmaidish dress

(This is fatty a million years ago, fooling around in the Lenotre bathroom)

I bought these Homers by K.Jacques first in tan leather and they were so soft and comfortable and i loved them so much that i promptly ordered another pair of Parys sandals in mettalic bronze. I wore the hell out of them and i cant get myself to throw them away. But what do i love MORE than tan leather? SNAKESKIIIIN!! YAY!!! CHEERS!! These are delicious!! Oh and you know the Giuseppe Zanotti gladiators that half the world have? ya they're nice but they do not embody the spirit of those sandals. Spartiates (or Gladiators) cannot be glossy and perfectly finished and sparkly like the Giuseppes, they have to be soft and basic and a bit rough-looking so you can frolick in them and feel like you were supposed to be born on a Greek island a thousand years ago, or Sardegna where you live your life in simple, natural splendour.

Now these are printed snakeskin but the darkness is tres cool. Its very Ursula (from the Little Mermaid)

And seriously, my sandals and i have gone through an enourmous amount of dust (Kuwait), killer heat, sand (summer vacations on various islands and beaches), mud, and i have literally walked through rain that went above my ankles in them (Malaysia). And they're still fabulous. I swear no one is paying me to say this. I just love them!!

Oh and the only ones i think compete are these. These. All Hail. WHY BOTTEGA WHYYYY???

Il Nas Yannaw?

So im sure anyone with the slightest knowledge of fashion knows that the hottest hottest item this season is Balmain's ripped jeans. I admit, they are flipping cool. And i actually really wanted to buy them. Until i asked the price. A THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED EUROS FOR A PAIR OF JEANS????!!!!! Are you CRAZY! Jeans are one of the cheapest things to produce!! Thats flipping INSANE. And the thing is, they are SOLD OUT. IMPOSSIBLE TO GET world-wide! Aint that nice? Ya3ni im sorry, this is not a matter of opinion or taste, there has to be something seriously wrong with you if you spend that much on a pair of ripped jeans while you could, i dont know, NOT. (or spend a decent 30-70KD on a very nice pair of well-made jeans and give the rest to a homeless person who's ripped jeans did not start out that way!)

On the other hand, their dresses are KILLER. KILL.ER! Check out the extreme shoulders, the brash sequins, the super-high, flintstone hemlines, OOH GLORY!!!

This is my favorite, although i wish it came in another color like pistachio green or emerald. The giant crystals form a robotic web on top of ripped tulle and the pleated fabric winds around one arm in thick ribbons like a half-generated muscle!! The zenith! The Ultimate Prehistoric Trashtastic Glamorama Fembot!!! O.M.G IT is soo good!! It is sooooo gooood!! You can buy it at Louisa Via Roma for 15,314 Euros.

Ay crisis, ay ba6ee5?

Pataya Beach: An Unlikely Treasure

This post is looong over-due but here it is! Pataya Beach is one of the best Thai restaurants in Kuwait! Okay, first of all, this is not a place where your average Girly-Twirly would be caught dead. The chairs are different and it is in that travel-agency building in the CT. I would never had known about it of my cousin didnt go to the Thai fresh foods mini-market suggested by my mother and accidentally discovered it. You know the kind of food that doesnt look good but as soon as you put it in your mouth all doubts concerning its heavenly, flavorful, herb-and-spice infused goodness vanish into thin air?
Its SO FLIPPING GOOD!

Their number: 2408052 (in old numbers)
Mezzanine, Dawria Souq, Kuwait City
Open 10.30 am to 9.30 pm
Just call if you get lost, but remember upon entering the building you will immediately notice the abundance of travel agencies. So you will immediately know if you are in the right building or not.

Pre- Eid Al Watani

We had a little pre-Eid Al Watani on the 24th i believe (or was it the 23rd?) thrown by the Kuwaiti Embassy in Roma. In the Grand Hotel. It was the usual Embassy Affair, #3087 ive been to in my life. But I actually mildy enjoy these events, there is something vaguely comfoting about mostly middle-agers laughing at lame jokes and talking passionately about whats going on in the Embassies and who will be asigned the next water-pipe project in Botswana.
I cant do buffets so i didnt eat and we had already reserved for Harry's Bar later that night- but thats another post.
A few clothing and detail photos:
Let there be fur. Its not possible to attend a formal event without it. This is one of my favorite, a Chinchilla/leather super-long super-super-soft coat lined with grey cashmere from Fendi.
This is a close-up of her silk bow with a broooch pinned in the middle. One of my favorite details for slightly older women.

This was customized dress and i thought it would be so much cooler if she had bare legs and paired it with fire-engine red patent pumps!

Close-up: it had cool jewel-strass and feather details.

Me. My favorite, fabulously soft button-up from Charvet, a tie, my favorite yellow MiuMiu skirt and a blazer i've had since 6th grade probably which i made more interesting by replacing the original buttons with major crest buttons from Liberty. And my leopard turban from Harrods Millinery. As usual, i didnt think of whta i was pitting on until later. Then i looked in the mirror, and was like, cool man. Im calling it Neo-Minimalist Maharaja (ya3ni Maharaja without the jewels, cause they always wore suits and ties and stuff with turbans.) Its not for everyone but i found it fun!

Covered up. Its still very cold in Europe.

Happy very belated Eid Al Watani!!

Progress Upon Arrival

Hey guys! I'm back in Paris, I'm actually in the taxi stuck in traffic outside the airport at this moment. But never mind the guilt over wasted gasoline because guess what type of taxi-car I'm in? A Prius!! Yes indeed! Even France makes progress! I am, for the first time in my life, in an environmentally-compatible vehicle! With an authentic Chinese driver! Hooray! What a fabulous surprise present from the Republic for my birthday! Bye now!

FMO: For Morons Only

Hey guys, im in Roma now and have been for the past week so thats why i havent been posting. I saw this movie before yesterday. I started reading the books in grade 8 and ive the read the series many times over. Fluff, 6ab3an, bes it was funny because the character was such an foolish obsessive but she had such an entertaining voice and ridiculous justifications for her habits. Luke was more of a mysterious character in the book, and was more amused by her than impressed with her. Becky was NOT as dumb as she is in the film. There were so many elements that did not translate from the original British and Becky's character was so boring and commercial and idiotic that it shocked me.
Pros:
1) i liked what the SO not evil Alicia Billington was wearing when they went to Barneys.
2) Becky's thrifty parents were kind of funny! I love watching Amercan who see, mathalan, a jacket and they ask: "how much does this cost?" and you say: "$120" and they just go "OH MY GAAD, i could buy EIGHT pairs of clogs with that at PayLess, they're havin' a discAWnt you know? Wow! No honey, we should put that in you CAALLEGE fund!"
Cons:
1)Isla Fisher's American voice was so annoying i wanted her jailed.
2) Luke was transparent and two-dimensional. And too short.
3) CHEESE CHEESE CHEEEEEESYYYYY
4) Hideously predictable. EVERY STEP. It was like, "now this is gona happen.. Oh! there it is!"
5) Becky and Suze (who were very much supposed to be British) spoke and acted like 2 12-year-olds on a Valley Girl sitcom in 1989. Immaturity incarnated.
6) Fights over tacky Russian-Mafia-Wife Ribena Butterfly Gucci (EW!) boots bore the hell out of me. They should have done that in 2000, hello decade later!
7) The editor's French accent? Kill me. NOW.
8) I could go on forever.
The film was so generic, so heart-wrenchingly DUMB that you have to have an IQ of -5 to enjoy any part of it! I would have gotten up and left within the first 10 minutes if i hadnt been with someone.
Verdict: Dont waste your time.
